Biography: |
Prof. Mrs. Nkeiruka Justina Obumneme-Okafor is an accomplished and highly educated academic of the Faculty of Law, at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Anambra State, Igbariam Campus. She holds an OND and HND in Catering and Hotel Management from the IMT, Enugu and the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri respectively before delving into the Legal Profession. Thus, she also holds a Bachelor of Laws degree, a Master of Laws and a Ph.D in Law from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka. She is also a qualified Barrister at Law.
Educational Experience and Expertise:
Prof. Mrs. Nkeiruka J. Obumneme-Okafor has vast and robust experience in Law specialising in Commercial and Industrial Law. She teaches courses under this branch of the Law, such as the Law of Consumer Protection, Law of Contract, Law of Arbitration, and Labour/Industrial Law. In the field of Private Law, she teaches Family Law and Succession. In these areas of Law, she has been imparting and impacting legal knowledge and expertise on students for an extensive period of time. She is commendably proficient in her areas of specialisation, evidenced by the numerous published articles in her areas of specialisation.
Professor Obumneme-Okafor is a Certified Mediator and Conciliator.
Special Interests:
Her major interest is in Family Law with particular flair for issues relating to children, parenting, marriage and matrimonial causes. Although a lawyer, as a Certified Mediator and Conciliator, she values, encourages and participates in the settlement of family feuds through Alternative Dispute Resolution via Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation. She is a valuable resource person, a counsellor and a passionate speaker in these areas.
Accomlishments:
Prof. Mrs Obumneme-Okafor attained the rank of professorship in 2017, by which she became the first female Professor of Law in the Faculty of Law COOU Anambra State. She subsequently became the first female Dean of the Faculty by election. After serving out her tenure of two years, she was appointed for an extra one year in the same capacity. She served as a Senate Representative in the Council of the University from 2018 to 2021. She has served in many committees in the University both as Chairman and member. She was the Director, International Linkages, Partnerships and Corporations of the University from December 2021 to January 2024.
Community and Social Activities:
Prof. Mrs Nkeiruka J. Obumneme-okafor is the first Ph.D holder in Law, the first Professor of Law and the first indigenous female Professor in her community. She has by her position and achievements been a role model and positive inspiration for higher academic attainments to countless number of people in her community and the society at large. She has actively and intentionally mentored a great number of youths. She engages in public speeches and lectures aimed at encouraging people to maintain virtuous standards in their occupations and righteousness in their spiritual lives.
Professional Membership:
In addition to being a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers, Professor Obumneme-Okafor is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators of Nigeria, a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators of Nigeria, and a Member and Legal Adviser of the Board of Trustees of New Creation Schools in Nsukka. She is a devoted member of the Christian Lawyers Fellowship of Nigeria(CLASFON).
Personal/Family Life:
Prof Nkeiruka J. Obumneme-Okafor is an embodiment of hardwork, integrity, passion for excellence and dedication to family and friends. She is married to Barr. Samuel Obumneme Okafor, which marriage is blessed with three children. She stands as a consistent and dedicated wife and mother. |
