Biography: | BIOGRAPHY OF PROF LAWRENCE C. IKEAKO<br /><br />Prof. Lawrence Ikeako hails from Ogidi in idemili North LGA of Anambra State, Nigeria. He completed his primary education at St. Philips Central School (Akpakogwe), Ogidi. He had his secondary school education in Government Secondary School Afikpo and tertiary education at the University of Nigeria.<br />After a brief stint in the private sector, he joined Anambra state civil service in 1989 as medical officer 1 and was posted to General Hospital Nnokwa in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra state. He left the service in 1995 on study leave and went back to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital for residency (specialist) training. This was concluded in 2001. Prof Ikeako, JP (Jerusalem Pilgrimage) having visited Israel on pilgrimage in 2012 and he was knighted in 2016 as Knight of St Paul, KSP (Anglican Communion) in 2016.<br /><br />Member of Associations/Committees<br />He is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Nigeria (SOGON, 2001- till date), Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCAN, 2001- till date) and member committee on establishment of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka in 2011. He is a member of the Board of Management of St Faith’s Specialist Hospital, Awka.<br /><br />Contributions to Academics<br />He is an external examiner for the 4th MBBS examinations in several universities including University of Nigeria, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi, and Madonna University, Elele, Rivers State, Nigeria among others. Presently, he is an external examiner (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) in two Postgraduate Medical Colleges: The West African College of Surgeons (WACS) and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN).<br /><br />Editor<br />He is one of the lead editors in two medical textbooks for undergraduate and postgraduate education in Obstetrics and Gynecology: Our Teachers, A Comprehensive Textbook of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Gynaecology), Second Edition Vol 1 and Our Teachers, A Comprehensive Textbook of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Obstetrics), Second Edition Vol 2. The books are widely read in the West African sub region.<br /><br />Current status<br />Prof Ikeako is currently a professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (COOU) and Chief Consultant at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka. He has over eighty (80) scientific publications in both local and international journals and two textbooks to his credit.<br /><br />Marital status<br />He is married to Dr (Pharm) C.
