Biography: | Dr Angela Oyilieze Akanwa is a Doctor of Environmental Management at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, Nigeria. She obtained her undergraduate degree in urban and regional planning (2004) from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Enugu State Nigeria. She also obtained a Master degree in Environmental Management (2011) at Nnamdi Azikwe University Awka, Anambra State. Angela received her Ph.D in Shell International Centre for Environmental Management and Control, University of Nigeria (UNN) Nsukka, Enugu State Nigeria in 2016 at a record time of three years. She has completed courses in Project Management in global health, Fundamentals of global health research and Economic Evaluation in global health research all from the University of Washington in 2020. Presently, she is a Senior Lecturer, an academia, and a researcher at COOU since 2017. From 2018 to 2020, she served as the Departmental Post Graduate Coordinator and Secretary. From 2020 to 2023 she served as the Head of Department. Between 2021 and 2022, she served as Chairman for Accreditation committee for the Department of Environmental Management. During her headship, the department received full term of five years and graduated the first two PhD students from the department in 2022. Presently, she is a Fellow of Metharath University, Thailand. During 2021, she participated in the Urban governance lab workshop at the University of Lagos Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development on Strengthening Neighborhood Level Research Capacities for Sustainable Communities in Fast Growing Nigerian Cities. Funded by the Heinrich Boll Stiftung Nigeria (HBS) and the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development, University of Lagos. Also, she participated in 2021 an international workshop by NUEP/GRID-Geneva and sector project on ‘’Sand and Gravel governance failures and success around the world. Extractives and Development of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) supporting cross-case Learning and key elements and directions for global sand governance. Her research has centered on Coastal Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation, Extractive Industry, Sand Sustainability and Governance, Human induced hazards, Floods/Erosion, Disaster Risks, Waste Management, Ecosocial and Community Health Impacts. She has steered interest toward collaborative studies that foster interdisciplinary, cross cultural and inter/intra-university research studies, Mixed Methods and Community –based Research Approaches particularly with concerns over marginalized populations including women and youths/children. Angela has published books, multiple international journals, book chapters and conference papers in prominent journals such Springer, Elsevier, Intech Open and many more. In 2012, she authored and published her book ‘’ Power of Adjustment in Marriage’’, and in 2022, she authored and an edited book on ‘’Ecological Footprints of Climate Change: Adaptive Approaches and Sustainability’’’, published by Springer International Publishing, Springer Nature Switzerland AG (Publisher). http://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978- 3-031-15501-1 on https://link.springer.comm. She has made numerous scholarly contributions, 850 mentions in Academia while (h-index 7, i10-index is 5, citations 206) in 2023 (https://scholar/google.com/citations?h). She is an Editor and Reviewer for both local and international journals. She has also undertaken international researches, funded by Ghent University, Belgium in 2022, Belgium. She presented at Simon Fraser University Canada on Horizons: Crisis and social transformation in community –engaged research on community voices on recurring flood problems in Anambra State, Nigeria, 2022. As a consultant and a resource Person, she has contributed to the development of baseline studies and data gathering as well as being a facilitator to a consultancy firm handling monitoring and evaluation studies, environmental and social impact studies and report for the World Bank/NEWMAP Gully Erosion Projects in Anambra State. She has consulted for Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), Ghana for data requirements from Anambra State Waste Management on liquid Waste Management Solutions for Anambra State. She is a member of the Professional body of Environmental Management Association of Nigeria (EMAN), Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), National Institute of Town Planners (NITP) and the Project Officer for Nigerian Coalition for Eco-Health Research (NCEHR). She has taught a variety of courses both at the under graduate and postgraduate levels, and supervised projects at all levels as well. She has optimally supervised two MSc students. She has worked in committees and held several leadership positions in professional, volunteer faith-based organizations and community projects both within and outside the university. She is a spiritual leader and governs a Faith Based Organization-Spirit Filled Women International (SFWI), since 2012, targeted at helping women and the girl child. She is married to Rev. Engr. David Akanwa and they are blessed with children. | ||
